- The youth were given paint shirts, white hats, a white canvas, and plenty of squirt bottles filled with paint. Their only instructions were to have fun!

- The youth work hard on their creative writing projects.

- The youth were tasked with visually representing a creative story that they wrote.
Youth ages four to eighteen born with cleft lip and/or palate, their siblings and friends participated in a monthly art workshop series from January 2012 to April 2012. Workshops were held at Colorado College and taught by a volunteer instructor with the Bemis School of Art. Colorado College student also volunteered their time to assist participants with the projects and to teach creative writing sessions. These art pieces show two stories – the personal stories of the youth and the community building that occurred during the art workshop series. The workshops enabled participants and their families to share their personal stories with one another, ask questions of those with similar experiences and form new friendships.
